About This Opportunity:
As Senior Manager, Engineering, you will lead the engineering function at our Brandon facility and oversee a diverse portfolio of capital projects—from smaller site improvements to major multi-year investments. You will shape project scope and business cases, establish reliable budgets and timelines, and lead execution safely, on time and on budget within an active manufacturing environment.
You will also serve as the site’s senior technical resource, providing leadership across utilities, refrigeration, infrastructure and process equipment. Working closely with plant leadership, maintenance and enterprise partners, you will strengthen engineering standards, guide technology and automation opportunities, and develop a capable team of project engineers.
This is an opportunity to influence the long-term performance of a complex facility, lead meaningful capital investments and deliver improvements that support safety, reliability, operational efficiency and future growth.
Any Canada Packers team member interested in being considered for this role are encouraged to apply online by October 21st, 2026. Applications received beyond that date are not guaranteed consideration.
Responsibilities:
1. Capital Planning and Front-End Development
Build Brandon's capital submission and develop the projects behind it to a standard that stands up at approval. Projects are put forward against the same four categories used across the portfolio:- Safety, quality and risk — work that protects people, product and our licence to operate.
- Critical infrastructure and utilities — refrigeration, power, water, effluent and building envelope.
- Growth and return — capacity, yield and cost projects with a defensible case.
- Transformative projects — larger changes to how the plant is configured or operated.
- Work with the plant leadership team to identify and rank site capital needs, and recommend priorities to the Director of Engineering.
- Own feasibility, scope definition, cost estimating and business case development for Brandon projects.
- Prepare capital submissions so they arrive at Finance defensible the first time rather than after rounds of rework.
- Maintain a forward view of site capital needs that feeds the rolling five-year plan.
- Be clear about what is not funded and what risk the plant is carrying as a result.
2. Capital Execution and Project Delivery
- Own delivery of the Brandon capital program on scope, on time and on budget.
- Apply the Canada Packers project management standard consistently — stage gates, cost control, schedule management and change control.
- Sequence concurrent projects around production, shutdowns and seasonal demand so plant output is protected.
- Lead commissioning, validation and start-up, with rapid stabilization and a clean handover to operations and maintenance.
- Manage contractor safety, site access and quality of work throughout execution.
- Report project status honestly and early, so problems surface while there is still time to act on them.
3. Site Engineering Support and Standards
- Act as the senior engineering resource to the plant on utilities, refrigeration, infrastructure and process equipment issues.
- Apply and enforce engineering standards, specifications and design practice set at the enterprise level.
- Maintain drawings, equipment records and asset documentation so the site stays coherent as it changes.
- Support regulatory, food safety and environmental requirements in the design and modification of plant assets.
- Partner with plant maintenance on reliability issues that need an engineering answer rather than a repair.
4. Technology Application and Vendor Management
- Bring forward technology and automation opportunities from the plant floor into the enterprise innovation pipeline.
- Run pilots at Brandon on behalf of the wider business, and give an honest read on whether they should scale.
- Manage equipment vendors, engineering firms and contractors working at the site, including scope and commercial terms.
- Hold external partners to expectations on safety, schedule, quality and compliance.
5. Team Leadership and Development
- Lead and develop the Brandon engineering team, setting clear expectations and workload priorities.
- Coach project engineers on scoping, estimating, cost control and site leadership.
- Build technical depth and a credible successor for key roles on the team.
- Foster a culture of accountability, safety and execution discipline.

- Brandon capital projects delivered on scope, on time and on budget.
- Capital submissions approved without rework, with estimates that hold through execution.

- Clean commissioning and handover, with assets stabilized quickly and accepted by operations.
- Site capital needs visible and current, feeding the five-year plan on cycle.
- Engineering team capability visibly stronger, with development plans in place and key roles covered.
