About this opportunity:

Location: Premium Gilt Site 1 Sow (Zhoda, MB)
Employment Type: Full-time (40 hours/week)
Salary: Competitive compensation based on experience
Schedule: Rotating shifts that include weekends, holidays, and occasional alarm response.

Are you an experienced professional in swine production with leadership skills? As a Team Lead in the Breeding and Farrowing Barn at Canada Packers, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the health and welfare of our animals while leading a dedicated team. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll contribute directly to our production goals and foster a culture of safety, excellence, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Manager, Hog Barn, you’ll oversee all activities in the Breeding/ Farrowing areas and supervise staff. Your responsibilities include:

  • Managing Occupational Health and SafetyWorking with the Barn Manager to implement CP programs to achieve specific production goals.

  • Managing animal health and welfare, biosecurity, vaccinations, and reporting any health concerns to the Barn Manager.

  • Detecting heat patterns and carrying out natural or artificial insemination.

  • Following and implementing breeding and farrowing group work plans.

  • Planning weanling schedules with the Barn Manager, selecting sows to be weaned, and preparing and recording weanling shipping numbers.

  • Monitoring ventilation and heat settings throughout the barn areas.

  • Accurately recording and analyzing data.

  • Monitoring inventory of medications and supplies and placing orders through the Barn Manager.

  • Ensuring breeding and farrowing areas are clean and that washing and disinfecting procedures are followed.

  • Reporting any unusual problem areas to the Barn Manager.

  • Implementing CP sow and piglet feeding programs.

  • Monitoring hog body condition and overall animal comfort.

  • Following culling criteria and implementing them in collaboration with the Barn Manager.

  • Supervising and evaluating staff.

  • Performing general maintenance.

Skills & Experience:

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada at the time of application. Proof of eligibility may be requested during the recruitment process.
  • Minimum one year of experience in swine production is required.

  • Supervisory or management experience with team leadership skills is preferred.

  • Grade 12 diploma preferred.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Strong communication skills (oral and written).

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.

  • Alignment with Canada Packers’ Leadership Values and Code of Conduct.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to a rural location.

  • Availability for weekend and holiday shifts on a rotational basis.
